The Fence Line Surprise
Every property has a story, and sometimes the survey tells a chapter nobody knew about.
We were working with a vacant lot that had homes built on either side of it. When the new survey came back, it showed something no one expected: one neighbor's fence was sitting on the vacant lot, not on their own property.
Moments like this can go sideways fast. Nobody likes hearing their fence is in the wrong place, and it's easy for a simple mistake to turn into a standoff.
A Calm Conversation First
So we started with a conversation. No demands, no pressure, just the facts and the survey, shared kindly.
Then we gave the neighbor time to do their own research. That part matters. People feel better about a decision when they've seen the facts for themselves. Their research confirmed the same thing the survey showed.
From there, it came together quickly. The neighbor's contractors moved the fence and the irrigation lines back within their own property boundaries, and everyone moved forward on good terms.
The Gem
A survey protects what you're actually buying, and it can bring up surprises like this one. When it does, calm conversations and a little patience go a long way. Giving people room to see the facts for themselves turned an oops into a resolution, and kept neighbors as neighbors.
If you're buying land or a home and have questions about surveys, fence lines or property boundaries, we'd love to walk you through what to look for.
